Margot Wohl is a graduate student, working towards her Ph.D. in neuroscience. She’s a podcaster, host of the Rad Scientist Podcast. But she’s also a TEDx speaker, talking about her graduate work and her podcast.
Takeaways from our conversation:
Don’t box yourself in. Margot is considering a number of options for what she’ll do once she finishes graduate school. Work in industry. Be a podcaster. Be a professor at a liberal arts college. At this point, there is no reason to commit to a single avenue.
Memorize the beats of the story. While Margot wrote out her entire TEDx talk, ultimately, she memorized the main points of the story, not worrying about getting every word correct.
Practice in front of people. Margot practiced her TEDx talk in front of a couple of friends to get their feedback. Their feedback was instrumental in making her talk better.
